Hey. [Sam & Steph]

nigel-de-niro:

Sam felt completely happy. When Steph accepted his apology, he offered her a smile that simply said “thank you”. The blonde smiled back, and that caused his heart to jump a little. He was glad she didn’t notice that she somehow made him feel uncomfortable. He put his hand over his chest, hoping that that would make his heartbeat return back to normal again.

He can now leave Thompson High without thinking about things left undone, he thought to himself.

“I hope this isn’t the last time I’m ever going to see you.” He murmured and stood up, looking at her solemnly.

She smiled back at him. She didn’t know if she should stand up, leave him there in the hallway and forget him & all their memories forever or if she should make the best out of the situation and stay with him while she still can.

She heard him murmur something but she wasn’t quite sure if she heard him right. “Wait, what? How can this be the last time you’ll see me? You’re not leaving Thompson High, are you?”

Hey. [Sam & Steph]

nigel-de-niro:

A long period of (awkward) silence followed.

He gulped, and tried to avoid her gaze. Tried to ignore the voices in his head. Tried to ignore his conscience that made him stay up late every night. But of course he wasn’t able to do all of that. He was quite tired of battling with pride.

He didn’t know where to begin. He wiped the cold sweat dripping off his face, and looked at her. His heart was thumping fast. He took a deep breath, and after a few moments he spoke. He’s leaving Thompson High, he remembered. And he’s never going back. He knows that there’s a huge possibility that he might not see her ever again, so he’s taking the opportunity. This moment. To say one last goodbye.

“Steph,” He said in a nervous tone. “I know… I’ve hurt you. That I made your trust fade away. And I deeply regret the fact, that I never asked you to stay.” He swallowed once again, and continued. “I shouldn’t have done that. But there’s nothing else I can— I can do.”

“But I still hope, that one day you’d forgive me—- Even though that one day is going to be the last day of my life.” He breathed freely.

He wanted to hug her. Just one last time.

“I’m—I’m sorry, Steph. I really am.”

Steph prepared herself for this. She prepared herself for the day when she gets an apology from the guy she used to love. She remembered the nights she thought of Sam and how every time he does something that hurts her, she’ll forgive him because she still loves him, the nights that are now long gone. Ever since that day in the courtyard, she proved herself wrong. She can’t forgive him for this until she learns to move on. It took her a long time to do it and now that she has, she has no right to not forgive him.

“I’ve forgiven you months ago, Sam. I just didn’t really talk to you because I didn’t want to. I thought that nothing can take back the pain that you caused and for that reason, I shouldn’t talk to you. But it’s been months since that moment. I’ll be too overreacting if I still won’t talk to you, right? So apology accepted.” She smiled at him and left it at that.

She honestly didn’t expect that she would say this to Sam. These weren’t the words she thought she would say. And she didn’t expect his apology to affect her so much. Was it because she felt guilty for not talking to him for the past few months? Was it because she thought he was a heartless jerk? Or was it simply because she still loved him?

Hey. [Sam & Steph]

nigel-de-niro:

He tilted his head and grinned. “I don’t know, but I really want to stay sober this night.” He shrugged. He took the book from her gingerly and read its title. “Why We Broke Up by Daniel Handler”. Bam. Straight through the heart. Sam didn’t know what to feel anymore, but he tried to look normal.

He looked up to her and said, “Wow.”

Sam was speechless.

“That’s a first.” Steph could tell Sam would feel something towards the book. “Yeah. I haven’t reached its end of the book but I seriously think Ed, the boyfriend in the story, cheated on Min. I guess that’s the reason why they ended their relationship.”

She regretted saying those words as soon as they came out of her mouth but she had no way of taking it back.

Hey. [Sam & Steph]

nigel-de-niro:

“No, I’m not drunk! Really…” He shook his head and looked down. “I’m not planning to get drunk. No, not this time…” He spoke softly, and after that he remained silent. He looked at her, then at the book lying in her lap. “Wh-What’s that book all about?” He pointed at the book. He tried to read the title but his eyesight’s poor already. I seriously need to buy a pair of glasses, he told himself.

“But what kind of halloween night will this be without getting drunk?” She giggled and handed the book she had to Sam because it seemed to her that he was interested in it. “It’s about a girl who is giving her boyfriend a letter and a box. In the book, you would see the contents of letter, and the box as well, which are the reasons why they broke up. It may sound too cliche but it’s a really good book.”

Hey. [Sam & Steph]

nigel-de-niro:

“Oi,” Samuel’s eyes grew wider as soon as he recognized her. If he knew it was her, he won’t probably spend his time here. He just hated it— that feeling, that feeling he gets whenever he sees or talks to her. To that girl. To that person he once called his.

“Hi, Steph. Happy Halloween,” He smiled, and waved awkwardly. “Oi, I’m not drunk, just so you know.” He said matter-of-factly, shaking his head. He scratched the back of his head, unsure of what to say next. “Uhm-uhh—” He tried to say something, but he just said “never mind.” He already gave up.

“What a nice thing to say to me.” She looked at him. He looked exactly like the blonde guy she fell for but she didn‘t feel like she was with the same guy and she had no idea why.

She said, “Happy halloween to you as well, Mr. Chase.” She sat across him and put her coffee beside her & her book on her lap. “Psh. Do you really expect me to believe that you are not drunk? Listen to yourself, you’re stuttering.”

Hey. [Sam & Steph]

nigel-de-niro:

Samuel walked down the gloomy, unpeopled hallway. A part of him wanted to loiter there until 12 midnight, because going to that Halloween party would just make him happy for a short period of time. He’s going to leave Thompson High tomorrow, and he didn’t want to be emotional.

He stopped walking—- he decided to sit down for a while. He’s not a party person, and his friends know why. It’s because he’s the guy who can’t hold his liquor. He remembered that time, that time he got drunk at a party. At Steph’s party. That time he and Steph shared a kiss.

The blonde smiled at the thought, and then shook his head. He shouldn’t be thinking of something that won’t happen anymore, because that’s just going to make him sadder.

And then he heard footsteps. He looked around and saw a silhouette of a girl. He remained silent, waiting for the girl to come closer.

A book, a large cup of coffee and a tree to sit under; those were the things needed to keep Steph company for this Halloween night. Of course, her planned quiet night wouldn’t go so well for there was a party going on in some place near the courtyard. Some drunk couple decided to leave the party and make out in the courtyard, near the tree where Steph was sitting under. She told the couple to get a fucking room and left.

She looked for a place where no drunk people would disturb her silence with whatever crazy antic they could think of doing. For her, it seemed impossible to find one so she decided to go to the nearest building she saw.

Almost every hallway in that building seemed to have either a drunk person sleeping on the floor or a group of drunk freshmen knocking on doors and running. That is, until she saw one hallway that looked empty until she walked through it and saw a blonde guy sitting down on the floor, smiling to himself for no apparent reason.

She couldn’t recognize him until she walked closer to him. She saw the blonde guy’s face and instantly found out who he was. She was about to turn around when she realized he was looking at her already so she had no choice but to stay. She said to him, “For crying out loud, do you have to be drunk every time I see you?”

I hear a group of people asking one another what costume they‘re wearing tonight so it must be that time of the year once again.

Happy Halloween, I guess.
